How are rice farmers doing financially. Are there stresses from water issues, rising input costs, regulations, etc? Are these any different than in recent years? May 08, 2012
Grant Lundberg said: This year with the late rains most rice farmers will be planting without restrictions. The biggest challenge in the last three years has been the heavy rains in the spring. This has focused rice growers on figuring out how to plant rice in the shortest time possible. Farmers have rethought each step in the planting process to minimize time. At harvest this means that a lot of rice comes in at the same time to the dryers and storage facilities. This can place a great amount of stress on the receiving capacity. Sometimes growers will need to slow down their harvest to match their storage and drying capabilities. May 08, 2012
