HOW TO COOK

Get The Perfect Rice, Every Time

Rice is best cooked however your mother or grandmother makes it! For this who did not pay close attention here are some tips:

With a Rice Cooker

The simplest and most reliable way to cook rice is with a rice cooker! It not only ensures your rice comes out perfectly every time, but it also handles all kinds of rice — white, brown, and aromatic — keeping it warm until you’re ready to eat.

Just follow the instructions on your rice cooker. Use the measuring cup that comes with it, and pay attention to the fill lines on the inner pot. Keep in mind that cooking times can vary between rice cookers, generally ranging from 40 minutes to an hour. Happy cooking!

On the Stove

Getting the right water-to-rice ratio is key to the perfect rice. For short and medium grain white rice, you’ll want to use 1 cup of rice with 1 1/3 cups of water. If you’re cooking long grain white rice, it’s
1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water. For brown rice, go with 1 cup of rice and 2 1/4 cups of water.

White rice usually takes about 15-18 minutes, while brown rice needs a bit more time at 45-50 minutes. Just remember to keep the lid on until the time is up, and you’ll have a delicious result! Enjoy!

Where to Buy California Rice

Visit the Asian section of your grocery store (if you aren’t already at an Asian market). Look for a bag of Calrose rice — our main rice grown right here in California. It’s a soft, slightly sticky medium grain rice that’s great for sushi, rice bowls, and paella. Other packages may say medium grain and are meant for Japanese or Korean customers. They all come from us! Our farmers also grow many other types of rice, both organic and regular. Just look for ‘California’.
